Illuminating Inspiration, 2021 Pantone Color of the Year

March 16, 2021 | Floral Tips, Interiors

Color is such an important element in design and we are always ready to embrace bold new hues in our florals and interiors. Today, we’re going to be sharing some garden & outdoor space inspiration featuring Pantone’s 2021 Color of the Year, Illuminating.

It is a truly warm and welcoming shade of yellow and with Spring right around the corner, we can’t wait to start seeing it pop up everywhere!

Illuminating Yellow Home Inspiration

Yellow can often be an intimidating color for many people, especially in the home. It is often bright and can easily overpower a space, but we have a few tried & true techniques that can help you effortlessly incorporate a bold pop of color into your space for a chic, modern style without it feeling like too much!

1. Use Yellow in Key Spots

If yellow is intimidating to you, treat it as an accent color to start. This can be easily done with interchangeable elements like pillows, throw blankets, flowers in a vase, or a simple bowl of lemons on the counter. Especially if your home is more in a neutral palette, this is a wonderful method to add seasonal interest into your interior design without overwhelming the space.

2. Play with the Saturation

Obviously yellow is commonly very bright and cheery, but don’t forget you can totally soften or mute any bright shade for a more mellow vibe. Think of soft, buttery yellows and more dusty, bohemian mustard hues. These are still obviously yellow, but they really create two completely different aesthetics.

3. Keep it Simple

Make a statement without it feeling busy by keeping your yellow accent more on the minimal side. Don’t overthink it and go overboard! Try a vase of branchy forsythia or a beautiful bowl of lemons on the counter. It’s one element, grouped together that makes a lovely pop without adding visual clutter.

Illuminating Yellow Garden Inspiration

Outdoor spaces are usually much easier for people to take bold chances because they are often larger and it’s harder to overwhelm. Gardens are typically meant to be colorful, so this is a natural place to incorporate some yellow!

Napa Valley is well known for blooming mustard in the fields and it is such a sight to behold. One of our favorite spots has to be Aperture Winery. It is the perfect vineyard to see mustard blooming in real life.

Recreating this on a small scale with your own mustard plants would be so beautiful!

At the end of the day, we always encourage our team and our clients to be bold. Whether it’s wedding florals, wardrobe, or home design, embracing out-of-the-ordinary ideas always leads to stunningly unique designs. And, of course, Team ALD is by your side to help you walk through the process confidently.
