Todays’ golden hour wedding is undeniable proof that even the smallest gathering can be a stunningly beautiful celebration of love. Heather & Adrian tied the knot at a private home with just 15 guests after their original wedding plans were postponed.
Their mini-mony was planned in only a couple of months but you’d never know it from all of the beautiful details and the effortless bohemian style. (Psst… this gorgeous day was also featured in California Wedding Day! Check out the full feature here!)
From Heather:
I wanted a similar vibe to the original wedding I’d been planning for over a year, but also didn’t have the same budget by any means. So I was strategic with what rental items I spent a little more on (the chairs, chargers & flatware), and what items I cut back on (the napkins, plates & glassware.)
Since our venue was outdoors, I wanted it to feel organic & natural, but still have some boho/modern style to it. Incorporating beautiful flowers was really important to me in the overall design for dinner.
Golden Hour Wedding Flowers
We had the best time creating this relaxed, organic style for Heather (who is a fellow wedding pro!) It can be a bit intimidating to design for another creative, especially one who’s attended hundreds of weddings but we teamed up together to bring her vision to life.
Her bouquet and table design are truly just incredible and play off of the natural setting of the venue perfectly.
How did you and Adrian meet? Tell us about your love story!
I was a Sophomore in a sorority in college and he was a Senior in a fraternity. Our “Bigs” were friends, and made a plan for us to “accidentally” meet at a party one night. We instantly hit it off talking and we exchanged numbers. Unfortunately, though, the party got rolled just a few minutes later. Since he was “DD’ing” that night, he asked if I needed a ride home, but I said I was good and that my Big was driving me home. We parted ways, but as soon as I got outside, he texted me to double check that I had a safe ride home. That was the moment I realized he wasn’t just your average frat guy.
Heather’s Advice to Other Brides
For couples in my position (who have had to postpone but still want to do something small beforehand), I say go for it!! We had been together for over 5 years already, and we just didn’t want to wait another year to make it official. So whether that’s going to the courthouse just the two of you with masks on, or doing an intimate backyard ceremony, it will feel special NO MATTER WHAT.
Frankly, it made me realize that I was kind of getting hung up on the little things while planning my big wedding. This all brought it back in to perspective of WHY we’re doing this. Through this mess of a year, I think we’ve all learned that things don’t always go as planned, and that’s okay! Because however it works out- however many people are there, whatever the weather is, whatever you’re wearing, whatever your budget is- it will be the most beautiful day. Because after conquering all this crap, you’re finally getting to marry your person.
What was your favorite moment of your wedding day?
One of my favorite things was how we were able to personally connect with every one of our guests during our ceremony. Since we only had 15 guests, we talked about how each one impacted our lives & our relationship.
Since I’m a wedding planner myself, I was a little worried that I would be “desensitized” when it was finally my turn to walk down the aisle. Right before the ceremony, when Alex came over to tell me it was almost my turn to walk out, I became an emotional mess (in the happiest way possible!) As soon as I walked down the aisle & saw Adrian though, I was able to take a deep breath and enjoy every second.
Tell us about your reaction to seeing the flowers. You can include anything about working with ALD to make your vision come to life.
I’m pretty sure my jaw literally hit the floor when I saw my bouquet for the first time. In all my years of wedding planning and seeing HUNDREDS of beautiful bouquets, I had never seen one that reflected my style so accurately. It was everything I dreamed of & more… boho & modern, fresh flowers & dried elements, free-flowing but not TOO wild, unique textures & colors, and yet still totally timeless. I had only sent Aimee a few pictures of the style I was envisioning, but then really entrusted her to be creative with it.. and I am SO glad I did that, because she totally knocked it out of the park <3
